We aim to make bicycling accessible and affordable to people from all walks of life. Through our Adult, Family, & Community Programs, Bike Works builds community and provides access to cycling as a life changing form of transportation. We increase awareness and understanding of bikes and biking while providing affordable or no-cost bicycles, parts and services to help youth and families get into bicycling, keep them on their bikes year after year, and ultimately reduce their reliance on cars.
ADULT, FAMILY, & COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
Adult Programs
Already known far and wide for quality youth education in bicycle repair, Bike Works also offers excellent adult programs including on-site and off-site repair classes for grown-ups of varying skill levels, Adult riding classes, Partnership programs for low-income adults, and Volunteer Repair Parties where adults can practice their repair skills. These volunteer events are designed to be accessible and fun for people of all skill and experience levels, including total beginners.
Bike Works offers reduced fees for our adult classes in return for volunteer service. The volunteer work trade model is a way for us to give back to our volunteers and to invite our students to participate in our volunteer community.
Family Programs
Bike Works has added family biking and adult riding classes to the programming mix! Our family biking suite is geared towards supporting parents and kids in riding bikes together. Join us at our Family Bike Expos with opportunities to learn about and try out different types of kid- and cargo-hauling bikes, including with electric assist, monthly Kidical Mass/Family Bike Rides, or Family biking seminars. Not sure about all of this family biking business? We also have a small rental fleet of family biking rigs to test out.
Community Programs
From organizing large-scale community events like our Annual Kids Bike Swap to participating in smaller ongoing events in our neighborhood to donating bikes to local nonprofits and communities abroad to helping foster a cycling culture through bike parking to working with Rainier Valley Greenways to help make our streets safer, Bike Works finds many creative ways to engage our community and promote cycling.
