CLASS
What The Class Covers
A.B.C. teaches just that, the ABC’s of bike repair. In this class we will focus on the basics, in a format specially designed for beginners. A.B.C. is an opportunity to learn the most fundamental concepts of bicycle repair in a safe and nonjudgmental environment.
In six weeks you’ll learn the same basics of bike repair that the youth learn here at Bike Works in the Earn-A-Bike program, but in an adult setting. You’ll take a bike apart down to the bare frame and build it back up. You will help support the good work of getting youth on bikes by building up bikes for Bike Works to donate to the community, just like the Earn-A-Bikers do. There will even be a class where you can bring your own bike and get help tuning up your ride! And it’ll be fun! A great opportunity to hang out with the Bike Works community!

D.E.F. - ADVANCED BIKE REPAIR FOR ADULTS
Also, coming in 2010 is D.E.F., an advanced level bike repair class where big kids will learn how to maintain and repair even the most mysterious parts of the bicycle.
Do you already have a basic understanding of how a bicycle works, but still have some blank spots in your knowledge you’d like to fill? Do you wanna know why your bike goes, “KACHUNK-CHUNK!” as you ride down the street and what you need to do about it? Have you always wondered what advantages cassette hubs have over freewheels? Or what’s the deal with threadless headsets and how do you work on them anyway? Well, D.E.F., the Advanced Maintenance Class for Adults is for you!
Bike Works is thrilled to introduce another great bicycle program for adults and this time we are delving deep into the arcane arts of advanced bicycle repair. The D.E.F. class will not only beef up your mechanical skills, it will also enhance your knowledge of bicycle componentry and vocabulary, empowering you as a mechanic and as a cyclist!
What The Class Covers
D.E.F. class takes the foundational knowledge you already posses as an intermediate bicycle mechanic and builds on it, taking you further than you thought you could go. The class focuses on current bicycle technology and advanced repair techniques. D.E.F. is considered an advanced class, but it is still a safe and fun environment designed to help students to grow as mechanics.
Over the course of six weeks you’ll overhaul and repair a fully equipped mountain bike, taking it from tired and abused to refreshed and refurbished, ready for riding! You will learn the basics of truing a wheel, how to set up derailleurs for reliable shifting, the secrets of overhauling complex three piece bottom brackets and advanced braking systems and much, much more! The best part is that you’ll not just be learning for your own sake, you’ll also be helping Bike Works prepare bicycles for our bicycle distribution programs. On top of all that it will be a great time!
Become an empowered cyclist!
Grow as an advanced bicycle mechanic!
Take part in the Bike Works community!
D. E. F.!
